Flash generation during friction stir welding of cast AA-Scandium with pin rupture, flashing on one side, A: as-cast; 10mm thick aluminum alloy 7050-T651 plates (Al–5.6Zn–2.5Mg–1.6Cu) alloyed with 0.12 wt.% scandium were friction stir welded at a travel speed of 140 mm/min. The pin length was approximately 9.5 mm and the rotation speed was 240 rpm.
